Adding zones to single zone hvac

I have dual stage furnance and dual stage a/c single two story house with two story living room. I was thinking about adding zones. Basement one living room kitchen two master bedroom three. two bedrooms upstaris 4. There is single duct for return going in basement from first and second story. There is distcharge side duct in basement and the number of duct work runing to 1st and second floor. Will hvac contractor have to add second large duct and move duct work to it from second floor ? Run new duct work for basement ? Or installing dampers on duct pipes would be good enought .
