I have a newish house with a 25 year old split system. The condenser just kicked the bucket (fan motor is broken). I was planning to just replace everything (condenser, coil, furnace, etc) since its all overdue but I had a technician out here who said that's not necessary and that I could just replace the condenser and coil for now and leave everything else until there's an issue with one of them. Its tempting because its cheaper to do that, but is that a good idea? I don't want to just create more expense down the line by doing replacements in a piecemeal way. Before the condenser gave out, the system was working decently well. It even managed to keep the house cool during the insane heat wave in the SW a few weeks ago--though that probably had something to do with the fan breaking--so there aren't really other issues aside from the condenser. I'm getting quotes from other HVAC outfits on the work, but I'd love to hear a disinterested take from someone on this.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
