Hello all. First post, so I wont be able to submit a picture, but Ill try to describe the situation as best I can.
We just bought a home that was built in 1991. The finished basement has a doorway going into the utility room right next to the furnace. This is in addition to the main entrance to the utility room, which is found by found by going around the basement, through two rooms to get to. I would like to put a door into this second doorway next to the furnace, as the unit is quite loud when operating. Also, theres a crawl space in the utility room that leads out. We have animals who feel its their duty to try and escape as frequently as possible, so not sealing the space with some sort of barrier isnt an option.
Its a direct vent furnace, with 2 3-inch pipes going out to the exterior. If I put a door into the doorway, there will be maybe 5 inches of clearance between the door and the unit. My question is, will I be causing any problems by putting a solid door (for noise mitigation) there? That would be my preference, but of course I dont want to cause any safety issues or operational difficulties with the furnace. If necessary, I can install a louvered door, but the furnace really can be quite loud, so Id prefer to block as much noise as I can.
Sorry if this is confusing - Ill be happy to add a picture after I reach the 7 post minimum. :)
