Hey everyone. I just purchased a new home and there is no AC in the entire place expect 1 in-the-wall unit in a bedroom. House is roughly 2,000 sqft total over 3 floors. The house has hot water baseboard heat supplied by oil furnace which is roughly 5-7 years old.
I assumed, after looking on the internet, that a ductless mini-split system would be the best choice to get AC into the house vs through the wall units (window not an option no window sin the house will fit ac units). Plus I would have an added benefit of using it for extra heat in the winter time to supplement the water-baseboard heating or if it made sense use it instead? I am in the North East, so it get cold here in the winter. Anyway...the AC is my main point of concern since there is nothing now and I figured Mini splits would save on electric over running Wall AC's in multiple areas of the house at the same time. Is this a good way to go or are there other options I might be missing to provide efficient AC to the existing home with no duct work?
I had an HVAC guy come out through a GC who is doing work on the house. The HVAC guy did a tour of the house and gave a quote for 6 headers inside and 2 multi-zone compressors outside. The brand is Rheem and he said it will come with a 10 year Warranty. I did not dive much into what the warranty covered yet. After reading this forum and some other places, I've never seen Rheem as a brand mentioned and for the price they are asking it gave me pause. Does anyone know anything about this brand? Should I just call another HVAC company who deals with Fujitsu or Mitsubishi and get their quotes instead?
