Had two new Ruud units installed with the following features:
Indoor: Upflow two stage, communicating gas furnace w ECM blower
Outdoor: Single stage 16 Seer
Thermostat: Nest Version 3
The installer recommended this setup to help with humidity control (dehumidification only) and efficiency. Should the blower fluctuate speeds to dehumidify the air with the current set-up? According to the installer, it will only come down 15% and that is it. They have been out several times and changed dip switches, changed thermostat settings, etc. These units cycle on and off more than my 20 year old units. I tried sending Ruud an inquiry and their response was to call a Ruud Pro. LOL.
According to the manual, changing the dip switches without a communicating thermostat or a humidistat only decreases fan speed by approximately 15% giving it less than optimal performance and possibly causing problems. It is not recommended to leave this in the ON position without a humidistat installed. (Ruud Installation Instructions, P.39)
I told the installer this and he said each Ruud communicating thermostat is $1500 and a humidistat was not necessary because the Nest thermostat would take care of that.
I just want to know if this setup has the capability to be running at different speeds (not just 85%) with the current equipment (single stage compressor with ECM furnace/air handler)?
Respectfully,
David
