I am looking into getting a humidifier for the house and am hoping to get some input on a couple of things.
The first is if I actually need one. RH humidity on the main floor is 38-40%, the second floor is lower about 35%. They have been dropping steadily since fall but I wasn't paying too much attention until I started noticing static in my sons room. There is some condensation on the north facing windows in the morning, especially this last week or so. So it seems like I am on the limit right now but I don't want it to keep dropping.
Second is there isn't a lot of space on the supply duct roughly 11" high, x16" wide. Most of the bypass or fan powered humidifiers I have looked at list something like 15x15 as the dimensions. Steam units seem like they could fit but the cost of the unit and to run it are comparatively high. I saw a unit called a "Mister mini" that is only 4"x4" but appears to just spray water into the supply duct while the furnace is firing. It seems like this could lead to corrosion issues inside the duct especially if the nozzle starts to clog. Does anyone have experience with these? Is there another unit with a small footprint I should look at?
I could just get a couple of small room size ones for the bedrooms if there isn't a whole house version that fits my space. I like the furnace mount though for the control and lack of tanks to fill.
Appreciate any input.
