I am planning to replace my exiting central HVAC ( NG furnace, AC ) with ducted heat pump system, like Bosch IDS 2.0 3-ton or Mitsubishi ducted split system PVZ-A36NHA. The existing system was installed 28 years ago and still works.
This unit will go into attic ( there is no other option ) and the new line set, if we decide to install, will have to travel through the attic to the outside wall and go down concealed in a downspout kind of pipe. I am trying to avoid this option ( visible outside duct ) , if possible, for aesthetic reasons.
The existing line set runs from outside unit to the attic concealed in the wall, as it was done when the house was being constructed. That's why I am exploring if I should get this reused to serve the new system air handler.
If I get this existing line set throughly tested ( flushed for use with R410A, vacuum and pressure tested ) and in case it is found to be perfect, should I consider reusing it ?
What are the chances that the line set will deteriorate to develop leaks in next few years, if it is found to be perfectly fine today ?
Will value your opinion. Thanks.
