Hello,
There's a weird smell in my house that comes and goes and changes based on temperature, humidity levels, etc.
I suspect it comes from the acoustic panels inside the plenum and main air handler that may have gotten wet in the past due to excessive condensation one winter a while ago. That winter, my central humidifier got stuck and the house got too damp for a few weeks before I noticed and stopped the humidifier.
Since then, I have this slight odor issue.
A guy that does HVAC duct cleaning came to my house and claimed he didn't smell anything. Not everybody notices it but I guess I'm sensitive to that cuz it's obvious to me. He did however confirm that it could very well be that.
He offered to use a product to spray on top the acoustic panels to block the odor from seeping into the system. Another option would of course by to change the plenum with a new one but the product application is a cheaper option.
Does that sound right ? Is there really a possibility that acoustic panels start smelling over time or if they got wet ? And is that product / spray thing a legitimate procedure to have done in those circumstances ?
Thanks !
