Newbie here.
I've got an Carrier Infinity system and I live in an old house. I understand that minimizing leakage is the best way to maintain humidity, but in a 130 year old home, it's never going to be air tight. The house is moderately well insulated with 3/4 of exterior walls have been spray spray foamed (full foam isn't achieveable), batt in the attic and new windows.
When the furnace was installed we went with a very budget General evaporative humidifier, but even with Carrier control set to it's highest setting, the house is still pretty dry. I'd like to upgrade the humidifier, but I have limited install space.
I'm looking at the Emerson HSP2000 Steam unit or the Aprilaire 700 Fan Evap. I can fit a smaller steam unit like the Emerson on the hot side or a larger evap like the Aprilaire on the cold. The General is currently on the cold side and apparently the Aprilaire 700 will work on the cold with a hot water feed.
Wondering if any pros could weigh in on the two units I'm looking at and how they work with Infinity. Is there anything else I should consider?
Thanks.
