Our unit is about 11 years old, and we live in south Louisiana. We've gone through 4 different HVAC companies that have not been able to resolve this issue. Any time the outside temp drops below 65 degrees or so, the unit short cycles, whether the thermostat is on cool or heat. So far, we've had the EEV board replaced, indoor coils replaced (they were leaking), and new capacitors - all done about two years ago hoping that we'd resolve the issue before the warranty expired, but to no avail. The latest service company came out a couple of weeks ago and added two lbs of refrigerant (if I'm reading the invoice correctly). It continued short-cycling once the temp dropped again and the tech that came out on the second call about a week later said that the unit's running "just about perfect". That's obviously not the case. Looking for any guidance on what do or ask for. We've serviced the unit regularly and it's in great shape. We had to run it on emergency heat last winter any time the house got too cold. It's really frustrating because this issue has eliminated any efficiency benefits we should have achieved from installing a heat pump in the first place. Thanks for any advice offered!
