First of all thanks for having such a sweet community to get help on such an underappreciated topic. Im a bit of a keyboard jockey and ignorant to many things heating/cooling, but Id like to know more. So this season when my furnace started making a noise that I dont believe it did last spring, instead of calling up someone for an inspection, I figured I would try to learn more and understand this system and be able to troubleshoot and hopefully fix/adjust things when possible.
Anyway, as of this week, my furnace is making what I would describe as a loudish electrical hum, perhaps a new sound or maybe not, but definitely louder than the noises the furnace has made in the past.
So a few questions:
1. What is this sound? Whats the part, what does it do?
2. Do I need to worry about it?
3. Whats the fix? Adjustment, replacement?
4. What can change over time that would affect/create this sound?
