Hello all, I could really use some help on this. The house I am in has 2 heat pump units (one for upstairs and one for downstairs) we are on a slab. The upstairs unit was replaced from a contractor maybe 11 seer 2.ton to a 2.5 ton Rheem 15.5 seer using a 3 ton air handler. After the install was done, we noticed a knocking noise coming from the drain in the washer and dryer room. It wouldn't happen all the time, and I wasn't sure the cause initially. It showed up after the new unit was installed. At first I ignored it, but since it has come back I am beginning to think it is related to the new install (and after reading some of the forums here). The strange thing is the downstairs unit which is about 4 or 5 years old was running on AC yesterday when the knocking was going on. The upstairs was not running. I turned the AC off on the downstairs unit and the knocking stopped almost immediately. I looked upstairs at the units and both appear to have p-traps installed. Both units are in the attic. They both lead to the same drain area where the washer and dry drain pipe is. I cannot see them connect, but the knocking noise is right there in the area. There are no vents with the p-traps on either unit. Not sure if that would fix the issue or not. Wanted to get your thoughts. Thank you!
