Carrier GZ060 Issues

My HVAC vendor installed a new Carrier Infiniti GZ060 split system with a propane furnace for backup heat (no heat strips). Every time the heat pump turns on it makes all the lights dim. It's also been doing things that make me feel like it has a mind of its own like never stop heating (runs all night and house is 90+ in the morning when I go check on it).

Today, when the battery bank was almost completely full, the construction guys said they lost all power in the house and an alarm went off. I looked at my solar inverter (15kW Sol-Ark setup with 8x100aH batteries, off grid) and saw a couple "AC_Overload_Fault" errors in the list. I'm thinking the heat pump is pulling too much power, but it's only a 40 amp breaker.

This unit does not have their Smart Start (their version of a soft start) feature, I was stupid not to check that before I purchased it. However, it sounds like their rep is talking about using a hard start kit called "Super Boost". It kind of looks like a capacitor or something.

Will something like this be okay to put on a geo unit? I trust that their rep knows what he's talking about, but from a long-term standpoint I want to make sure it's safe.
