Located in hot humid Louisiana. We had a 3 ton luxaire/york gas furnace coil & condenser installed along with new ductwork in unconditioned attic. I have some concerns about several things:
1. The removed a large supply metal plenum & return box replaced with a 18" flex attached directly above the return grill(20x30 in ceiling) via a collar and plywood. Is a box at the return needed?
2. The supply plenum feeds 10 runs - flex duct sizes: 1-8in,
6-7in, 2-6in & 1-5in the plenum is 42" long. Not much room for all those. I'm getting conflicting opi ions. Another contractor came out & said the supply plenum should be longer(8ft) & we need to resize some of the ducts bc it's too much cfms for the unit. Should we change the length of the plenum to allow more space between all the collars? Should there be a space between the last collars & the end if the plenum? Installer says no- other contractor says 12in. Which is correct?
3. They only use zip ties to connect the flex ducts. No tape or putty - installer says they don't use that anymore...? I'd prefer more of a seal (putty or at least tape) than just zip ties but is that no longer required?
