Where to locate whole house dehumidifier in 3-story home

I have a 3-story, 4700 sq ft home in NC. Very high humidity and heat during the summer - dew point right now is in the 70s.

I have been running a small portable Frigidaire dehumidifier in our finished basement, but I still notice higher humidity on the main floor and the 2nd floor. 60%+

I've talked to my HVAC company who does my annual maintenance (they did not install the system) and they claim the system is sized correctly. I can get technical details if needed.

But I am looking at adding a whole house dehumidifier - my two options are the basement (there is a utility room where I can access the air handlers for the basement and the main floor) or the attic (where I can access the air handler for the upstairs). I am totally fine with the install process, but i could use some help in where to place the unit.

There is a door at the top of the stairs to the basement, which is usually kept closed (or just cracked open) - there is maybe 1/2" clearance at the bottom. The upper 2 floors are much more open to eachother (the living room has a 2 story ceiling which joins with an open hallway upstairs).

So I am wondering do I put the unit in the basement (which typically is the source of humidity in basement homes) or do I put it up in the attic and the airflow would probably get to the top two floors a bit more. We also have a fresh air intake for the house which feeds into the unit in the attic (its my understanding that when this kicks on, and if its rainy, its basically pumping 100% humidity into the house). The house was built in 2013 and is energy star rated - its sealed pretty tight!

Please let me know if I can provide any additional information to help with a recommendation.
