Two questions are there any smarter options for a condensate detection cut off switch or thermostat that somehow notifies you when it shuts off due to moisture? Ideally something using WiFi, but even an audible alarm would be better than nothing.
And also, is there any good way to elevate the moisture sensor off the floor of the pan so it doesnt trip at the least bit of condensate? Right now I have it Jerry rigged on a few plastic take out lids with duct tape that hopefully wont float up on the water in the pan.
You see, we have a central AC in the attic of a very old house. This season its been hot and theres been a fair amount of condensate around the attic air handler.
When the moisture sensor trips, we dont realize it until its already very hot in the house. And I have to bring a ladder up to the 3rd floor hallway to even see if thats what happened. The ladder drops leaves throughout the house and invariably it stays in the middle of the hallway for a few weeks while I monitor the problem. Big hassle.
I guess youll say the condensation is the real problem and that I need to improve the attic insulation. Thats all well and good, but I still could really use a much better solution for moisture detection.
We had some HVAC guys to inspect and tune the central air, but the condensation continues. They didnt have any better solution to offer.
The last time it tripped, I did notice a message on the thermostat saying to call tor repair. But Im not sure I saw that before, and anyways, that message doesnt really fix any of the above hassles.
I believe right now we have:
Wet Switch Flood Detector WS1
Safe-T-Switch SS2
Emerson thermostat
Amana ECM air handler
