the top story of my 2 story plus basement home has a dedicated HVAC system and the condenser is bad. it is an old bryant 561cj030-d with multiple issues. it is currently on the roof and has direct sunlight most of the day. this is a Kansas install to boot. the upstairs is 3 bedroom 2 bath at about 1000 sq ft. New windows and about as well insulated as the house can be for being built in 1906. The house was moved in 1996 by a professional contractor who lived in the house for about 10 years, (so everything that was fixed or repaired by him was done with scraps from other jobs)
i have a HVAC tech coming out to do the evac of the R22 early next week. i will then change out the condenser unit and add the line dryer next to the coil. the coil i am not planning on changing and is 2.5 ton 13 SEER rated for use with R22, it is an orifice valve coil. the closest available condenser i found available is the Heil - NXA430GKC, single stage, scroll, 2.5 ton, 14 SEER, R410a.
the Duct work and everything on that floor is all flex vent, the entire system is already slightly undersized for the space and i thought about abandoning it all and just installing a 3 zone mini split up there and calling it good but then the bathrooms would have no temp control at all.
clearly budget is primary factor currently, and apparently this is also required information: no, i do not have an expensive car, or any car payment at all for that matter. my newest vehicle is a 2007 Mitsubishi outlander. i currently work in I.T. and do everything myself. 20 years ago i worked in construction and after that a car dealership. i have worked on automotive HVAC and i rebuild cars and motorcycles as side jobs for extra income.
thoughts on how far off base the configuration i came up with will be? and if there is any other MAJOR concerns before i kick the old condenser off my roof?
any guidance would be appreciated.
