The problem is water leaking onto ceiling tiles in condo drop ceiling and the diagnosis is a defective coil by an AC tech. He is not sure if it pressure caused or defective coil.
Forgive me as I'm the owner of the unit but pretty much a layperson with hVAC. The tech says water droplets are forming on the coils and being sprayed out which is not proper. He says that
there maybe a bacterial formation that also could be a factor. He says the most predictable solution is unit replacement but the units are not currently available and he has to have them made and the cost of the unit
would be $4800. He also mentioned that the unit is not the preferred unit for my condo system application as it may work for a while but then it can fail because of something about hydrophonic water or something.
I believe this unit takes chilled or hot water that has some chemical additive possibly from a central source that feeds into the unit's fan coils and the blowers blow air over the coils to create cool or hot air. The problem is that water is forming droplets improperly over the coils and that water is not being caught totally in the drain.
He said he will consult with friends in the industry as he has encountered a similar unit in the same condo building recently and he will offer estimates soon.
I will try to get more details and perhaps he may consult on the pro thread. Very hard to get ac techs to come out to this 8 story 1966 condo building but he seems very professional.
I don't think the retail price of this unit 4 years ago was over 1000 dollars but now appears hard to get period.
Any thoughts or comments from pros appreciated.
