Changing registers from circle to rectangle/square

Look for some advice. I live in the south with high heat/temperatures throughout the year. Probably only use the heat 10-20 days a year. I have a 50 year old house that has had central air/heat for 30+ years but the air was added on to the system later.

I had someone come out because my outdoor unit was struggling. When they were at my house I had them look at my duct work because it’s old, possibly original and has holes from place to place.

The person that looked said all of my registers are the circle type designed more for heat and not ac systems. He is recommending changing all duct work (which I know needs done) and replacing all the vents to the rectangular/square type. He said those are designed for ac and I’ll be shocked how much better my system will work.

Quick search of the internet and I couldn’t find much on this topic. Does this sound correct? Are my ceilings going to be a mess changing the vents from circular to rectangles?

The guy seems upfront and honest but wanted to ask some experts before I shell out the money.
