I'm about to have my second floor AC replaced. Its an old Trane 2.5 ton R22 and replacing with a new Rudd 2.5 ton R410 system. The existing line set goes into my basement and then through the walls of the two floors and into the attic and is about 45'.
The liquid line is 5/16 and not 3/8. The contractor told me we can keep the existing line set (he'd clean it out) and I would not lose much cooling using the 5/16 liquid line as opposed to a 3/8 as the system is a small 2.5 ton. Is this true? If not, I would have to get a new line set run on the outside of the house which I'd rather not do. He said running a new set through the walls might not be possible.
Thanks!
