recently had a new Carrier 2 stage air conditioner and furnace installed at a cost of $. These replaced my old units installed in 2002. The new air conditioner replaced a one stage unit. At the time I purchased the equipment I did not realize that additional wiring to the outside was required and that this needed to be routed through a finished ceiling / drywall. At the time I told the company that I did not want to incur the additional expense of replacing the drywall so just give me the one stage. The installers called their office and they said it should not be a problem to fish through the wire. Well a couple of hours later and lots of banging trying to force the wire through the ceiling was completed.
All this was completed in the cold weather, so the company told me that they had to wait until warmer weather to install the freon and start up the unit. The technician who came out to start the unit up said the job would take about 30 minutes. He then informed me that there was a leak and something had to be brazed. Well 4-5 hours later he said the job was complete. I then started the air conditioner a week later and got a buzzing inside the house, which appears to be coming from the lineset.
Now the same company tells me that they have to open my ceiling (repairs at my own cost), replace the lineset with hangers and then reinstall the freon. Total cost is $ prior to ceiling repair. I did not have any buzzing sound from my old air conditioner and the the lineset isn't that old so I'm not sure what's changed with this replacement.
My question is, does this solution and cost seem reasonable? My only other option is to get someone else out for a second opinion, but that's also a service charge for a diagnostic fee.
Thanks for any guidance you could provide.
