I had a 4 ton variable speed Lennox Heat Pump (EL18XPV-048-230) and furnace (EL296UH090XV48C) installed. The dealer says that the 4 ton heat pump doesn't have the communicating capability built in (the 2 and 3 ton ones do) so I don't need Lennox communicating thermostat. The Lennox site says the EL18XPV is a communicating unit but I did find info elsewhere that says the 4 ton unit doesn't have the communicating piece. I have an Ecobee 3 Lite therm and dealer says the variable speed will be controlled by the outside unit.
From the dealer: "The variable intelligence is built into the outdoor unit based on timing. Icomfort S30 is the communicating stat from Lennox but as discussed before that model does not communicate with the thermostat for compressor settings. That is built into the outdoor unit. The 4 Ton doesnt not have iComfort Communication even if you had it hooked up to the S30 that feature is only in the 2 and 3 ton model. We can wire into the ecobee and the modulating will happen in the outdoor unit."
So far I only notice 2 speeds when it is running.
Kind of confusing and I want to make sure I am getting the best setup. I see info online that Ecobee can't control variable speed systems? Is the dealer right? Will I get variable speeds or just 2 speeds with ecobee? Or do I need the Lennox S30 thermostat do get the most out of this setup? Thanks in advance...
