Turning vanes - much benefit?

I previously posted about our Daikin heat pump system that wasn't performing well. Turns out there were some installation and programming issues, so at least it's keeping up reasonably well with heating demands.

During the course of evaluation, the techs noted multiple 90 degree turns on the return side (two of which were actually added at initial install). They suggested at least two areas where turning vanes could help reduce pressure drop and perhaps therefore improve system performance.

Questions: could this approach improve airflow on the supply side? (still struggling with this) Would it possibly reduce energy consumption by the air handler or the system as a whole? Thanks.
