Dehumidifier with Two Stage Heat Pump

Longtime reader, first time poster.

Getting ready for a full installation on a 1950’s single story renovation (total gut job).
Located in south MS.
Manual J complete, 4 tons required.

I was originally looking at a Trane XR17 w/ TAM9 to get the best humidity control possible without stepping up to inverter.

A second option would be adding a whole house dehumidifier, although I will have to compromise on the A/C side to a less costly brand, with a traditional TXV rather than EEV.

Research and gut tells me the dehumidifier option will perform better, but I have the following questions.

1. What are the maintenance requirements, common failures, and typical life expectancy of a dehumidifier?

2. Is there a substantial benefit of running two stage cooling with a dehumidifier, other than the slight bump in efficiency and less noise?

Note, none of the candidate contractors have mentioned the dehumidifier option. I will be taking technical ownership of the system, which I have no problem with.

Thanks for any help you can offer!
