I consider my Trane heat pump fairly new so I am surprised at learning that the outdoor unit is unable to defrost itself. Lately we've been having really cold temps - 17, 12 degrees at night. The outside unit freezes, the fan doesn't blow and I'm getting cold air inside instead of warm air. Or the fan stops blowing and the emergency heat kicks in. HVAC company came out for the 3rd time and finally diagnosed it as needing a TXV. The part is covered under warranty but they said labor will be ***** Does this seem fair/correct? Why would a fairly new unit have this problem already? Is that normal?
