Hi all. I am at my wits end with this and I hope someone out there can help. I am in TX and my Carrier Infinity touch thermostat is not recognizing that my outside unit is a heat pump.
Equipment:
SYSTXCCITW01 Infinity Touch tstat
25HNA936 2 stage heat pump
58CVA070 furnace
2 stage 54kbtu propane heat
2 SYSTXCC4C01 Infinity damper controls for 6 zones
This saga started when I noticed when heat was requested in a room, it would blow cold air for a few minutes, then switch over to gas heat and heat the room. I figured it was something with the heat pump. I called a recommended HVAC tech and they found the condenser's outside air temp sensor had a broken wire. He ordered the part. During this time we were waiting for him to get the part, I was able to use the Tstat to select the heat source as gas heat only.
After the temp sensor was replacement, the thermostat went into the equipment re-installation process on it's own. During this process, it communicates with the inside unit, outside unit, etc. It went through the steps and it is recognizing the outside unit (25HNA936) as a 2 stage ac and not a 2 stage heat pump. The technician that replaced the temp sensor said we should call someone with more "high end" system experience as he did not feel comfortable going any further.
While we waited on the next company to come out, the gas heat will no longer come on. If I turn the system to heat, it will cycle the outside unit and just blow cold air in the rooms requesting heat. It will not switch over to gas heat. Also now the heat source select button on the thermostat is greyed out.
We got another company to come out and I asked specifically for someone with Carrier Infinity knowledge to come out. The guy that comes out spends about 5 min looking at the outside unit and says it needs a new control board. He said is is sending voltage to the reversing valve when it shouldn't. He charged me a service call fee and left saying they will be in touch with a quote. He said he rigged it (by unplugging the wires to the reversing valve) so it would heat. I kicked myself after he left for not pushing him further to make sure he understood the system and all the things it is doing. Anyways, they called and said the board would be $1000 plus labor. I asked to speak to the service manager and ended up leaving him a message asking to talk about the diagnosis. Have not heard back (3 days).
I looked up the part and it was about half that from Supplyhouse (love those guys, have bought many parts from them over the years). I went ahead and bought and replaced the control board myself. I did switch out the ID module from the old board to the new. Well, surprise surprise, didn't make a bit of difference.
So I have been working on the thermostat and tried the installation process a couple times and it still recognizes the outside unit as 2 stage AC. I read in the Infinity Touch install manual that if it does not see the outside unit during this process, it will let you choose the type and btu outside unit. I ran the install again with the outside unit powered down and ABCD wires to the condenser disconnected. The Thermostat did not see the outside unit and prompted me for the type but only gave options for AC or none.
I feel like I must be missing something. I have looked at all the Carrier installation manuals and troubleshooting guides I can find and cannot figure this out.
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any direction. If we figure this out, I will post an update.
Nick
