My home is a two story house, currently with totally separate systems for up and downstairs. downstairs mechanicals and ductwork are in the basement/crawl space, with upstairs mechanicals in an upstairs closet and ductwork in the attic.
I'm going to be updating soon and have pretty much decided on the concept of fully variable HP + furnace backup for the downstairs. Upstairs will be HP + electric backup (no propane up there).
My question - does it make sense to look into a two zone system with a single condenser outside servicing both upstairs and downstairs systems? Or is it better to keep them totally separate?
Space isn't a huge concern either outside nor in the mechanical spaces.
