Replacing 20 year old Goodman system in a 2 story Arizona home....a few questions...

Hi everyone... I am considering replacing / upgrading the two Goodman units that I have on my home. The home, located in a suburb of Phoenix, is 2,100 square feet two story tract home, built in 2001. The home has lots of windows, and I have had solar screens installed over most of them. The living room of the house (about 14’ x 22’ in size) has tall ceilings (17’ or so) with both 8 big windows in it. The HVAC system consists of two Goodman CKJ36-1D outdoor condensing units with gas heat. The indoor units are installed in the 2nd floor attic. The system works OK, but on super hot days (those 110 degree days we get here in Phoenix), the system struggles to keep the house cool - mostly in the late afternoons / early evenings. I have not had any problems with the units, except for having a capacitor replace in one of them last year. From what I understand, the two units that I have are 3 tons each. I would like some professional opinions as if I have the correct sized units for my home... Should I have two 3.5 units instead? Will two new 3 ton units cool better than two 20 year old units? Should I bother upgrading at all? I would also like to know the SEER RATING on the units that I have.... I have seen a few local companies advertise new Goodman units that are 14 SEER rated. Any feedback or comments are appreciated. Thanks!
