Just had a new home built last year. Its strictly electric. Summer has been great but winters in MO can be chilly. Currently the highs in the upper teens and lows around -8.
Woke up and house was at 62 degrees. I had the tstat set at 72. Heat pump wasnt working, it was 2 degrees out. My aux heat doesnt kick on automatically, it needs to be manually put on. We kicked it on e heat (strip heaters) and it quickly got the house back up to a comfortable temp.
My installer told us to put it in emergency mode when temps are lower than 20. So its currently been in that mode for 2 days now.
How much higher is my bill going to be with it running in e heat for the next week (temps remaining in the teens for a few days) ? Is it more cost effective to have my system be a manual aux heat, rather than auto. Should I install an auto for the aux heat?
