I got a new furnace four months ago (Carrier 59TP6B/2 stage/variable speed/96%) along with a new filter (Aprilaire Merv 11). I use ecobee as my thermostat.
Last night I woke up to furnace pumping cold air through the vents. While I was checking the ecobee to find out the temperature of various sensors in my house, ecobee rebooted by itself. I figured furnace pumping cold air is an ecobee problem. I called ecobee support and they told me that my furnace has been overheating for last one week and when it shuts down, it cuts off the power to ecobee. I called the HVAC company that installed the furnace. They sent out a technician who told me that furnace is indeed overheating because of heavy "load" as it is very cold outside. The outside temperature last night was 2 degree F. The place where I live 2F is very usual during the winter and usually it gets colder than this during the season.
It is a brand new unit with clean filter. Is it possible what technician says can be true? If yes then did I get a wrong furnace? What good is a furnace that shuts off when you need it most?
Thanks
