In an effort to decrease fan noise traveling through return ducts, can you line an air handler with acoustic material?
I recently had a second return installed between my furnace air drop and the first floor. The installer did a really good looking job but it is rather noisy. It is a pretty short return, all sheet metal, and I think I am getting a lot of fan noise through the return register. I was thinking of asking him to either line the interior of the return duct he installed, the interior of the air handler, or both. Is lining the air handler a thing? I was thinking that might help make the whole system quieter rather than just the one return branch.
What material should I suggest for lining the ductwork?
Thanks in advance!
