I'm a homeowner, and I had a Trane XT 95 installed a while back. The exhaust vent pipe on the side of the house is high-pitched and loud. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner. My neighbor's bedroom is unfortunately quite close to the pipes and they've complained about the sound. I don't blame them. It's annoying and you can hear it clearly from halfway down the block.
I trust the installer and have no reason to think the job wasn't done to spec. I asked them about the noise and they didn't have much of an answer aside from "that's normal," which doesn't help with my neighbor problem. I've heard of mufflers to dampen the noise, but I've never actually seen one in action in my climate (it gets to -40 F where I live).
Any suggestions on how I can deal with this?
