I had the HVAC/gas furnace combo replaced over the summer. HVAC in summer seems to work fine and for the most part gas furnace has as well, but noticed a couple on/off issues that seems to have gotten worse/steady.
For perspective I started using heat 2-3 months ago.
-Noticed a faint gas smell at fire up coming from vents, but would quickly go away. (Assume normal from what I have read.)
-The gas smell doesn't happen when the following occurs oddly enough... The unit started off on occasion seems to fire up and blow room temp air out of the vents, but not heat for about 45-60 seconds and then stops all flow. When looking outside there would be no exhaust coming out of exhaust PVC pipe during that 45-60 seconds. It stays shut off for about 15-30 seconds and then fires up again this time blowing hot air out of vents like it should and exhaust coming from exhaust pipe and runs fine until set temp on thermostat is reached. This started off as a rare occurrence maybe noticed once a day here and there maybe 1-2 times a week if that, BUT noticed today it is every time it cycles on it goes through the described sequence.
Details may be related or unrelated, but just trying to give info so I might get a good idea of whats going on in feedback: Tonight because of the every time issue I went outside and peaked in under the house at the furnace just to see if I notice anything odd.
-When it fires up for the room temp air I notice a slight natural gas smell from the exhaust pipe. Nothing major just a hint and can smell the same under the house... I think... maybe nose playing tricks on me as it is pretty faint and it is a craw-space with vents closed for the winter. After it sits for the 15-30 seconds when it fires up like normal the normal exhaust comes out and nothing smells off when standing there next to where the exhaust pipe is.
-Lastly never paid attention before, but I notice when going into the craw-space to take a peak where the condensate line comes out the side of the house the ground is absolutely soaked all around that area and down the yard to a puddle. Should there be this much condensate water coming out? It is a 96% efficiency furnace. I don't think my lower efficiency furnaces have this where the line comes out on the other side of the house, but plan to check tomorrow.
Main questions:
1. Any idea on what my issue is?
2. If there is an issue then is it safe to operate the unit until I can get somebody out to take a look in a day or two?
Thanks for any feedback on this issue.
