Hi All!
Home built in 2004 and the units are just as old as the home. All York. My family has lived here since 2014 and we've never seen this behavior before.
The unit in question serves h/c to 10 ceiling vents in southern Louisiana. We're in that time of year in SLA where you run the heat in the morning and sometimes the AC in the afternoon but today, only the heat overnight last night (~32 outside at 6am). The unit is controlled by an Ecobee and it's set to run the fan for a minimum of 5 minutes every hour. It's 63 degrees outside now at 2pm and ~69 in the house. This is the typical weather pattern for January and this has never happened before. No windows or doors open. The only thing different about today is that our front door remained open for about 10 minutes maybe 30 minutes before we noticed this issue. However, the front door is closest to 5 other vents that didn't show the same issue.
All three kitchen vents suddenly developed moisture around them this afternoon almost as if you had placed a wet towel against the ceiling for a minute or so. None of the other vents served by this unit showed the same behavior. Nothing unusual was going on in the kitchen - no appliances on, etc. My family was simply sitting in the kitchen visiting. I thought ductwork insulation but it would be odd for three of them to have this problem suddenly and all at once. Nonetheless, I went into the attic to check it out. All the ductwork insulation is in tact and just to be sure, I checked the overflow pan - bone dry.
I was in the attic for maybe 10 minutes and when I returned to the kitchen, the moisture was all but gone. I turned the fan on since this is the only part of the unit that's run all day since ~7am and the problem did not reappear.
I have pics but can't post them as I'm a new user.
Any fishing tips are greatly appreciated.
Thanks and God bless!
