The HVAC system we have is meant to have a fresh air intake - the house was built in 2016 and Im the 2nd owner. It has an electrically controlled damper close to the HVAC Unit in the basement and a flexible insulated duct that goes from an outside side of house vent to the damper fitting. We also have a special switch installed in the far side of house guest bathroom exhaust fan thats activated from time to time by the HVAC. It runs 10-15 minutes every so often - this bath fan does exhaust to the outside.
The question - the exterior vent used by developments builder for the HVAC fresh air intake has a damper flap thats normally closed (spring loaded). All the homes here have it and so does a new development (by the same builder) a few miles away. So, if the HVAC system is supposed to get fresh air pulled in - why would an exterior vent be used thats normally held closed by a spring? Is their some weird science at work here?
