I recently replaced my HVAC with a Trane XV18 heat pump and Trane XC95m furnace for dual fuel. Ive never had a heat pump before, and Im not sure if this is working as expected.
First of all, the furnace is kicking in when I wouldn't expect it. The thermostat tells me that the auxiliary heat has been kicking in between 0.2 and 0.7 hours per day, even though the weather hasnt been cold. I've seen it kick in when the outside temperature was as high as 50 degrees (when I thought it would only kick in at freezing). In addition, one day the furnace kicked in after the heat pump had already raised the temperature by eight degrees to the target temperature. The furnace kicked in to raise it another two degrees about target. I don't understand why the furnace would kick in at that point. When I asked the installer about this, they said the furnace might be getting turned on by the dehumidification settings. That doesnt sound right to me. Should I be concerned that the auxiliary heat is set up incorrectly?
Second, it seems like the heat pump can take a very large time to heat the house. For example, it took it two hours one morning to heat the house eight degrees, and in another case it took 45 minutes to raise the house temperature by two degrees when the outside temperature was 63 degrees. I know that heat pumps are more gradual heating than a furnace, but is it normal to take that long?
Thanks in advance!
