Hello;
Newby online here.
Had an Aprilaire 600 installed last week. Used our trusted HVAC guy. Didn't talk about recommendations, sizing, models, etc. He just showed up and installed the 600. Our fault for now asking questions ahead of time, but partly his too for now showing us options, etc, ahead of time. During the install he talks about how it works, this is the one most everyone uses, and while finishing we watch all the water going out the drain tube. Of course he says not that much water and hot softened water works better and shouldn't notice any usage difference, water or electric.
After he leaves, we get to talking about the water flow out the drain tube, the fact we have a well and septic, and all that water going out the drain. House size about 2600 sq ft. Older home but fairly tight.
Then we start searching online and find there are a multitude of manufacturers and models by each.
The Aprilaire 400 attracts our attention due to its method of operation in that it is made for homes without a floor drain or homes with a septic in that it uses all water which is pumped into the humidifier.
The Mrs being European doesn't waste electricity or water, or a lot of other stuff.
We commented is that we should have selected the 400 for water usage efficiency, not needing a floor drain to run into the septic, and she also says why can't it be hooked up to the cold water pipe instead of hot.
We're thinking of having him pull the 600 and replace with 400 but that will almost double the cost.
So I guess the question is your thoughts on the 400 versus 600 and cold water versus hot. And is changing it good or bad.
Thank you.
