I have an Aprilaire humidistat mounted on the air return in the basement that actually controls the humidifier. My thermostat also has a humidity reading mounted in the hall on the main floor (2 story house). There is about a 7-12% difference in these humidity readings. My question is which is a better indicator to use for the humidity: basement return mounted humidistat or thermostat humidity level on main floor?
