So I went ahead and had central AC installed in early April when prices were low. Apparently my furnace room in the basement was built quite small and they had to get a smaller coil to fit on top of the furnace (see model # below). They had the smaller coil in stock and for the most part installation went smooth. We had one more cold spell at the end of April and I noticed that after my furnace was running for about 30 min or so it short cycled (stopped running (short of the desired temp) then about 5 seconds later started up again). I contacted the HVAC company and they sent someone out who cleaned up a few things and said if it happens in the fall then to contact them again.
Well sure enough the furnace is still short cycling if it runs for around 30 or so continuous minutes. I called them out again and they ended up charging me for the visit. The technician was nice and informative, and I believe he cleaned the sensors (again) and tested gas flow etc. He said my capacitor was "testing low" and I had him replace it. Paid for this as well.
We finally got another cold spell and sure enough it's still short cycling. I have all the vents open, new filter (he examined the filters I buy and said they're the right ones).
I'm aware I have a furnace from 2007 and it's older. My question is what should I do? My furnace NEVER short cycled before the central AC was installed. Everyone at the HVAC has been very nice and helpful, I believe they're a good company (they've been in my city for a while) but I can't help but feel that the AC installation is now causing this short cycling. A friend of a friend heard me talking about this and suggested the smaller coil is causing slight overheating and the furnace short cycles. I don't want cause a crack in the furnace from overheating.
I'm going to talk to the HVAC company again this week, I don't believe in being the angry customer who demands things unnecessarily but I do feel they may be giving me the run around. I figured I'd post here first to learn more info before I meet with them. Thanks in advance for any help (I won't try to fix anything myself). Below is some of my specs, I should be able to upload pics of my furnace room upon request. Thanks!
