Do I need the iComfort S30?

Hello all, I had a Lennox SLP98UH unit installed about 6 years ago. At that time I was told I needed to install the iComfort Wi-Fi Thermostat due ensure that the furnace ran as efficient as it could. Recently, the time on my iComfort has been jumping ahead and switching from AM/PM quite a bit. My vendor basically shrugged and said there isn't anything they can do to fix that and that I'd need to get a new one (if I can't live with the time shifts). Once again, my installer/vendor has told me that I would have to purchase a new S30 to ensure optimal performance. They have agreed to credit me back the cost of my first iComfort against the cost of the S30.

My question is, do I really need the S30 or is there another less expensive option that can handle this model furnace (SLP98UH)?

If anyone has any thoughts on the time shift issue, let me know. :).
