Strongly considering purchase of new natural gas furnace and condensing unit to replace an oversized Goodman heat pump. Contractor is proposing Trane XL16i (single stage) paired with a Trane S9V2 variable speed gas furnace using a Trane XR724 thermostat. Not certain the XR724 is the thermostat I want.
Home is a 20yr old 1600 sqft ranch with cathedral ceilings on a crawlspace, located in Eastern NC. Good energy efficiency, current system is oversized and humidity control is what's prompting upgrade from current 3.5-ton heat pump to 3-ton high efficiency natural gas split system.
Lets talk thermostats - current system has a Nest 3rd generation. Not married to Nest as humidity control has been severely lacking, but not certain the Trane XR724 will provide the necessary humidity control. What thermostat is the best for overall comfort and connectivity?
