New HVAC system choices

New member here and need help in choosing an HVAC.

Home is about 1800 sq ft townhome style with 2 floors in Burbank, CA constructed in 2004. I have owned since its construction in 2004 and original constructor had 3.5 Ton Lennox AC in yard and PSC blower motor in Lennox furnace, and coil in attic. Home is about 65% exposed to SE and SW directions with lots of double pane windows, and strong sun exposure, especially on 2nd floor. Present AC capacity is adequate, except on hottest days when it struggles and borderline acceptable. I ran the loadcalc and got about 40237 BTU cooling load (39195 BTU sensible). Existing AC is showing signs of aging and judging from its loudness, it can go any minute. Furnace, blower motor, and duct work appear to be in okay condition.

I am considering AHRI-matched 4-ton XC20-048, SL280UH090XV48B furnace with ADP LH42/62W9 coil (AHRI certificate 8304073). But I am open to other choices and have no attachment to Lennox. I understand that installation matters the most. I am considering new ducts at the same time. Existing return filter grill is 20 inch by 30 inch with about 20 feet of flex ducting connecting to the furnace. There is only one return on the 2nd floor. Temperatures are okay between the 1st and 2nd floors due to open staircase connecting them. Existing return grill accepts 1 inch filter but has enough depth to accept Honeywell FC40R type deeper pleated filter, which I have not used but seen them.

My number one criteria is system reliability. My questions:

1. Do you see any issues with the chosen system? Do you have alternate suggestions? I have not obtained any quotes yet and I am only exploring my choices at the moment.

2. At 75, it would be hard for me to climb into attic to change filters if a switch is made from existing 20x30 return filter grill to a filter near the furnace. Do you see any issues in keeping the existing return filter grill, which is centrally located on the 2nd floor and easy to get to?

Thank you for your time and response.
