Coolant level?

Had a local guy come out and give my system a check. Thought my heat pump was running too long on the cooling side. He checked it, found a leak, found it empty of coolant. He fixed the leak, but didn’t have enough coolant on his truck to fill it. He said it would take about TEN pounds. It’s a 4 ton system. He told me to call the home warranty guys that installed the system two years ago and see if I could get a free fill up. I reluctantly called them, and got a fill up. (The joint that leaked looked like they crimped the line on the install.)

So, now my heat pump, today on the heat side, won’t stay on. It cycles on, stays on for 15 seconds, then turns back off. My back up heat is heating the house. It’s 49 degrees, and I’m not happy about this!

My question is, the guy put 17 pounds in the system. Could an overfull system be the cause of the short cycle heat pump?
