We just had a new Bryant Evolution 986T 80K BTU dual zone furnace installed (2 stage heat with variable fan + AC condenser) in the attic. House is in California near coast with mild temps year round.
Zone 1 = 1824 sq ft house. 12x24" return air register with Merv 10 filter at register (used the old register hole)
Zone 2 = 440 sq ft insulated garage. 12x12 return air register with Merv 10 filter at register (new register hole)
We are getting a fair amount of whistling noise from return air when HVAC is on. If we open register and remove the filters, the whistling stops and it's super quite. I think the RA grille in the garage is also vibrating and giving us a high hum too.
Question: What is the best way to fix these issues?
1. Replace grilles with better quality grilles?
2. Use lower MERV rated filter? (or another higher quality one)
3. Add another RA register?
4. Increase RA register size?
5. Turn down fan? Is it adjustable? We have two Nest thermostats running the system.
Thank you for any insight!
