The company that installed the HVAC unit in our vacation home seems like it is no longer a going concern so we had a company recommended by a neighbor come out. The tech told us that both our Broan condenser and the inside unit have microchannel heat exchangers. It seems the installer bypassed the high and low pressure switches so that we wouldn't need to have refrigerant added or removed for each cooling and heating season changeover. The new tech is recommending that we have him restore the pressure switch circuit and perform the switchover each season. If that is how it is designed, then I guess that makes sense; however, it seems to have been working fine as it is for the past 5 years so I wonder why we'd want to set ourselves to have this changeover issue spring and fall. I know if/when I need a new system, I will certainly be looking to avoid this setup. Do we really need to have this bypass removed and, from a homeowner's perspective, is there any reason why you'd want such a setup?
