Adding ventilation and air conditioning to an attached garage?

Hi all,

I'm wondering how to go about adding/increasing ventilation in our garage and or adding air conditioning. This is in Southern California (South OC). Garage is 2-car and approx 400~sq ft attached with two bedrooms above. I *think* it's fully insulated but don't know for sure (would have to check this). The garage door is insulated but it has windows along the top panel which allow light (and I presume heat) in. Garage door is south-facing (and slightly west oriented too). There is a single vent that is around 15"x15" which is located towards a back corner of the garage and higher up near the ceiling.

I would like to be able to use this space for parking cars and also for working out or generally working on projects/fishing stuff/etc in the garage.

So I was thinking about increasing ventilation (by having another vent added?) and also considering a minisplit. If it is advisable to add both, do the vents also need to be louvered (where the louvers can fully shut)? And would it be advisable to have an exhaust fan added as well? There are no windows but perhaps this could be another alternative (add a window AC unit) versus having a mini-split installed?
