Hello. I have a 7 year old Goodman unit which recently stopped cooling. Was told we were low on Freon (2 lbs) in the past, filled it up and worked fine for about two years. Three weeks ago it stopped cooling and was running all day. Had a company come out, tech detected no leaks but low on Freon again (2 lbs) and said we should be ok. A week later, it did the same thing. Another tech came out and opened the handler and discovered Freon leaking under the coil. Said there is a leak and it (coil) must be replaced. Said there is no need to repair it, just replace it. (Also said we were low 2 lbs again on Freon). Apparently the part is only at the factory with a minimum of four weeks to come in. Started calling other companies for quotes and stock of parts. New tech (new company) comes out, opens the handler and determines the txv is loose. Tightened it and said we were down only one pound of Freon. He said he canÂ’t tell if there is a leak in the coil yet since that (txv) is where it was leaking. The first company told me you canÂ’t repair the txv and have to replace the coil. (That they are connected). Question, why didnÂ’t the first guy open the unit to see the Freon leaking and check the txv and then their second tech didnÂ’t offer any repairs but to replace. Their office has said itÂ’s the same thing but IÂ’m not so sure and IÂ’m out over $*** between both companies. Sorry this is so long, just trying to get an honest answer. Thank you in advance.
