Questions for the Carrier experts. I'm going to ask my dealer, but second opinions couldn't hurt. Last fall I had a Carrier dual fuel system installed. A 59MN&B60C171114 modulating furnace and 25VNA436A00300 variable speed heat pump. This is my first heat pump. Before I had a modulating Lennox furnace with a regular single speed AC. Last winter when on the heat pump the only time you noticed the blower being a little loud was when the heat pump was at 100% and the thermostat was changing temp up a couple degrees. Kind of surprised me how hard the blower ran when in heating mode. This summer the only time the heat pump would run at 100% was if I cranked it down some. I ended up just setting it at 76 degrees 24/7 most of the summer and just let it alone. What I noticed is it runs at 68% most of the time, (sometimes higher) with only about 480 something cfm, sometimes even less cfm but still 68%. Is that enough air flow in AC mode? I have caught at 50% once in a while and upper 40's& rarely. It's supposed to be able to ramp down to as low as 25% I believe. I like that it runs so quiet and its keeping humidity in the forty's. On mild days it seems like it would be better if ran at a lower speed and not start and stop as much. I do have one theory. I have a single-story ranch with a full basement. The basement stays a couple degrees cooler than the upstairs which with the low air flow I can understand. I'm thinking that when the system kicks on and pulls some of the cooler air up from below it makes shut off sooner than it otherwise would. Do they recommend leaving the blower run continuously? I have it set to shut off. Would it make a big difference as far as cycle times? I know it would even out the temps better, but I'm not too concerned about that.
