brand new system installed on friday blows heat on sunday, what went wrong?

Maybe our mistake was going with the lowest bidder, a local company in southeast? there were countless BBB complains, but all fixed by the company. the next estimate was $$$$ more for the same system plus UV light, a standard for that other company. I didn't care much for the light, as the bulbs are expensive and last 1-2 years.

the old system was 25 year old 3.5 ton SEER 10 Lennox heat pump. it sprung a leak 12 years ago, but i was able to get it fixed cheap and nursed it till now, when the compressor didn't want to start anymore.

the new system is 3.5 ton Carrier 25HCE442 Comfort SEER 14 heat pump with variable speed AH FV4CNF003.

i was not at home during the install on friday, but from what my wife told me, i'm concerned the installers were not well trained or professional. when they soldered inside, the fire alarms went off. at the end, my wife was scolded for us using FPR5 return air filters (the most basic filtration in the 24x24x1 size) and he slashed it with a knife and made holes to "improve airflow." They didn't leave behind any heat-pump documents or warranty info. only thermostat manual.

so, anyhow, system worked great yesterday and Friday night. very quiet compared to the previous. today, my wife noticed hot air coming from vents and home heating uncomfortably up quickly. the thermostat was set to cool (unchanged since the install) at 75F, it was about 82F outside and the indoor temp went up to 78F in a few minutes. i checked the compressor and fan at condenser, both running and both copper lines hot, the small one very hot, almost burned me. not sure if normal, if anything, it worked as a heat pump heating inside. i turned if off by thermostat. restarted half an hr later. the same.

i called the company today. they will send someone tomorrow morning. in the meantime, im shocked how something like this ($$$$) can go downhill so quick. i understood Carrier was one of the better brands now. did the installers messed it all up? and how? is it reversible?

thank you anyone who can reply...
