Hi, I've got a 154 year old home that has been made as tight as it is going to get, and is still very hard to humidify. The Aprilaire evaporative 17 g / day just does not do it. So I've settled on the Aprilaire 800.
The water here in Ottawa Canada comes from the Ottawa river and is quite soft, 2.5 grains. So that means using the 800LC. The install will be on 240 v.
Now, at 11.5 amps the max output is 23.3 gallons per day, and at 16 amps it is 34.6 gallons a day.
I'm thinking that the evaporative humidifier I have now rated at 17 g / day is actually nowhere close. So 23.3 true gallons with the 800LC would do the job. But would 16 amps / 34.6 be better?
I think the cost will be about the same, since whatever amount of water needs to be turned into steam will cost a constant amount, whether running longer at lower amps or less often at higher amps.
But maybe there are advantages to a more even steam delivery at 11.5 amps? Or maybe running at 16 amps and putting more steam in quickly and then shutting off would mean less steam time in the ducts and less stress on them?
Any guidance on 11.5 / running more often, or 16 / running stronger but less often, would be very much appreciated.
